Padua

The city was one of the cultural capitals of the fourteenth century: the pictorial evidence of the fourteenth century - among them, the Giotto cycle to the Scrovegni Chapel - make it a crucial node in the development of Western art. The artistic splendor of the fourteenth century was one of the fruits of the great cultural fervor favored by the lordship of the Carraresi who made Padua one of the main centers of prehumanism. In Padua, between the fourteenth century and the fifteenth century, an imposing cultural curriculum devoted to the old was developed concurrently with Florence, which will change in the Paduan Renaissance, and will influence the artistic team of the entire northern Italy of the fifteenth century. Since 1222 it has been the seat of a prestigious university which ranks among the oldest in the world. Episcopal seat at the head of one of the largest and most ancient dioceses of Italy is also universally known as the city of the Saint, the name by which St. Anthony is called in Padua, the famous Portuguese Franciscan, born in Lisbon in 1195, who lived in city for some years and died there on 13 June 1231. The remains of the Saint are preserved in the Basilica of St. Anthony, an important pilgrimage destination of Christianity and one of the main monuments of the city. Antonio is one of the four patron saints of the city with Giustina, Prosdocimo and Daniele. In Padua the relics of St. Luke, St. Matthias and St. Leopold Mandić are also venerated. In 1829, Padua was the seat of the first Rabbinical Convent, an important institution of Italian Jewry.

It is full of history and historical places, like different churches, palaces and squares.  The streets in Padua is very beautiful, because of the stones made by the romans. It makes you feel like you are walking on a part of the Italian history. Padua is definitely  the place to go, if you are interested in catholic history and churches.

It is a wonderful place to go for a biking trip, and a ice cream from La Romana makes the trip even better. You will definitely not regret this amazing experience!
